Vladimir Propp

Vladimir Propp was a Russian and Soviet formailst, Propp was born on the 17th of  April 1895 in St Petersburg to a German Family. Propp attended St Petersburg University for five years.

Propp's Narrative Structure

Propp stated that in folk tales scentance structures were broken down into analyzable elements. Propp used this method by analogy to analyze Russian fairy tales. By breaking down a large number of Russian folk tales into their smallest narrative units, or narratemes, Propp was able to arrive at a typology of narrative structures.

Ever since propps discovery of narrative structures in tales, his theory has been used ever since, for example in the video i selected the song's lyrics are broken up into verses, these vreses make the song longer and make it more enjoyable for the audience.
